General Information
The Flying Pig is an annual, class "A" series of
orienteering competitions hosted by Orienteering Cincinnati in late March
or early April. There are courses for all ages and abilities, and
anyone is welcome to attend.
The terrain is described in the Mapper's
and Course Setter's Notes. Control Descriptions: ISCD 2004 will
be used. Also, safety whistles and weather appropriate attire are

2005 U. S.
Team Trials (all 3 days)
The 2005 US Team Trials
to select the US team for the 2005 World Championships will be held as
part of Flying Pig IX. To be eligible for the team, you must be a US Citizen
and, if selected, willing to run in the 2005 World Orienteering Championships
(Japan). Team candidates must run all 3 days in M-21+ (men) or F-21+ (women),

The Pig Sprint,
Friday, April 1
Camp Friedlander, BSA Camp,
Loveland, Ohio. A very short, "sprint" event with late afternoon
starts. The Sprint IS a sanctioned "A" meet and you will earn USOF
ranking points. The Sprint is also part of Peter
Gagarin's U. S. Team Sprint Series (leaving OCIN website). Map
scale to be announced, 5 m. contours and estimated winning times of 15
minutes. Course setter: Vladimir Gusiatnikov. Parking should
be within 500 meters of start and finish. Site

U.S. Short
Course Championships, Saturday, April 2
East Fork State Park, off
Ohio 125 between Amelia and Bethel, Ohio. Short courses (IOF "middle
distance"). 1:10,000 map, 5 m. contours. The championship event is
open to anyone, however, you must be a USOF member and meet citizenship/residency
requirements in order to win championship awards. See USOF rules
for more details. Course setter: Stevan Vaughan.
UPDATE:
WHITE, YELLOW and BROWN will have a 1.4 to 1.6 walk (trail & road)
to the start. ORANGE, GREEN, RED and BLUE will have a 2.8 to 3.0
km. walk (20% trail, 80% road, mostly flat). Allow
plenty of time. Driving to the start is 6 km (white, yellow,
brown) or 7.5 km. (orange, green, red, blue), and there is no place to
park (drop off only). Site

The Classic
Pig, Sunday, April 3
East Fork State Park, off
Ohio 125 between Amelia and Bethel, Ohio. Classic distance courses.
1:10,000 map, 5 m. contours. (Red and Blue will use 1:15,000).
Course setter: Matthew Robbins. We are expecting a road walk
of 1.3 to 1.5 km to the start, so allow plenty of time. Driving is the
same distance and there is ample parking if you wish to leave a car at

Exit
I-275 at Ohio Route 125, on the east side of Cincinnati. Go east
about 9 miles. Turn left on Bantam Rd, left again into park and follow
"orienteering" signs. Site

Courses and Classes
Competitive
All standard USOF competitive
courses and classes will be offered. (See entry form)
All competitive entrants
should pre-register.
Recreational
Recreational Courses will
be offered on white, yellow and orange for $5 for individuals, $10 for
groups.
Advanced courses may be
done "recreational" with permission of Event Director only.
Recreational entrants should
register on site on the day of the event, at least 1 hour before the last
start time.
Punching
The Sport-Ident electronic punching system will be
used for all courses. If you own an SI card, be sure to put your
SI number on the registration form. Rental cards are available if you do
not own one. If you are unfamiliar with SportIdent, see: How
to Use Electronic Punching
SI-5 or SI-6 cards will work with all controls.
Upgrading of both USOF and OCIN control units has been completed.
Recreational courses will use traditional manual
punching.
Maps
Sprint map scale to be announced (probably 1:5000)
with 5 m. contours.
Short and Classic maps will be 1:10,000 with 5 m.
contours. (red and blue classic will be 1:15,000).
Maps will be custom printed for this event.

Awards
There will be first place awards in all classes. Separate awards each day. On Saturday, U.S. Champion medals will be give to the top 3 eligible finishers in each age group category.
Preview Maps
Existing maps of these areas will be available for
$5 each. "Preview" maps do not show the course you will be running.
They will not show the latest fieldwork updates. "Preview" maps do
not include newly mapped terrain.

that on your entry form.

Lodging
Camping is available at East Fork State Park.
Note that the campground is a 15-20 minute drive to meet sites.
Campground: From I-275,
take Ohio 32 east past Batavia.
Exit at Half Acre Road. Turn right (south) on Half Acre.
Go about 1 mile, cross railroad to stop sign. Turn left at stop sign.
Take first right turn into the park. Go 1/4 mile and turn left to campground.
Many motels are nearby. Make reservations
early.

Child Sitting
UPDATE: Child Sitting WILL be offered on Saturday and Sunday ONLY. We had no requests for child sitting on Friday by our March 11 deadline, so we will be unable to offer a sitter on Friday. We will make every effort to accomodate parents with split start times, if requested.
Entry Fees
If you are not entering all 3 days, please clearly
specify which days you are entering. Please clearly print all information,
especially your e-mail address. Double check your USOF and SI numbers
for accuracy!
Entrants from outside the USA may e-mail entry information
and then pay on arrival. However, if you have previously registered
for an OCIN "A" meet and then "no-showed" without giving us advance notice,
then you must pay before your entry will be accepted.

Adult (age 21+): $23 before March 11, $28 before March 26
(-$3 discount for USOF members: $20 before March 11, $25 before March 26)

Competitive Groups (on white, yellow, orange): $25 before March 11, $30

Sport-Ident e-card rental
$5 for entire weekend. Must sign agreement to pay $35 for lost or
damaged card.
