Beginners are always welcome and basic instruction is offered at no charge.
OCIN Events are held rain, shine or snow.     In the event of severe storm or snow emergency, check this site on the morning of event.

    Letchworth Falls Classic - 2 day national meet at Letchworth State Park, south of Rochester, New York. Organized by Rochester Orienteering Club (ROC). Event Website

    Full range of courses from white to red.

Starts open 10 am - 2 pm. Miami University's annual "Hike-a-thon Plus" offers a variety of activities besides orienteering, including hikes, guided bird walks, tour of Pioneer cabin, naturalist with birds of prey and possibly other critters, and more! In the past there have been food samples from Moon Co-op, free native trees and plants from Butler County Soil and Water Conservation District, and more. Courses were planned by Mike Minium; Event-Day directors are Brennan Hertel and Matthew Robbins. Helpers are needed fro registration and beginner instruction. This meet is also part of Cincinnati Great Outdoors Weekend.
    As part of Hike-a-thon and Great Outdoors Weekend, the white course will be free to beginners. Normal OCIN event fees for other, more challenging courses. ($7 for members, $10 for non-members, $2 discount if you have your own SportIdent timing chip)
    Locator Map. From Oxford, take OH 73 east about 1/2 mile, down hill and across bridge, and turn left into gravel parking area.

    Cincinnati Great Outdoors Weekend - Range of courses from white to green.

There will be various activities throughout the weekend in various parks around Greater Cincinnati, organized by Green Umbrella. Event Director: Greg Fasig.
    Starts are open from Noon until 3 pm. As part of Great Outdoors Weekend, the white course will be free to beginners. Normal OCIN event fees for other, more challenging courses. ($7 for members, $10 for non-members, $2 discount if you have your own SportIdent timing chip)
    Locator Map Registration and Start will be at the bandstand on the Clifton Avenue side of the park. There is limited free parking near the bandstand and metered parking along Clifton Ave.

    Courses: There will be 4 courses: One will be wheelchair accessible. There will be two easy white/yellow level courses, 1 short and 1 long. And to challenge the finest, there will be a score style course covering the entire park. Event Director: Joe Ratermann.
    Fees: special rate of $5 for residents of Sidney and Shelby County. Regular rates apply for everybody else: $7 for OCIN members, $10 for non-members, $2 discount if you have your own SportIdent timing card.

Go east on Ohio 47 for 1.5 miles and turn left on Main St. In 0.2 miles, take second right on North St. In 0.3 miles, continue ahead onto Riverside Dr, then immediately right on Tawawa Dr. In 0.3 miles look for parking lots on the left.

Oct 27 and 29, 2017     tentative "Trail of Treats", Hamilton, Ohio
    Butler County Metroparks. Very easy white level course. Kids can collect tokens at each control, which can be exchanged for a bag of candy at the finish. Friday evening will have day or night-time course options, with possible spooky surprises on the night version. In cooperation with MetroParks of Butler County
    Trail of Treats Twilight Orienteering: Friday, October 27, starts 5 pm to 7 pm, Rentschler Forest MetroPark, Walsh and Condo Shelters. Open to all ages. You will get a map showing the locations of several "treat" baskets. Use the map and your wits to find each basket and collect a token. At the finish, turn in your tokens for candy or toy. Come early to do the course while it is still daylight; come later to brave the spooky surprises that may lurk in the darkness. $4 per child, $10 family/sibling maximum.
    Trail of Treats Orienteering: Sunday, October 29, starts Noon to 2 pm, Governor Bebb MetroPark. Open to all ages. You will get a map showing the locations of several "treat" baskets. Use the map and your wits to find each basket and collect a token. At the finish, turn in your tokens for candy or toy. $4 per child, $10 family/sibling maximum. Intermediate and advanced orienteering courses will also be available for older children and adults who want to experience the challenge of off-trail navigation, $7 for OCIN members, $10 for non-members.

    tentatively at Miami University. All-day training program on Saturday with a mix of indoor and outdoor activities, geared primarily toward youth, but open to all. Sunday will be a regular competition with a range of courses from white to red. Sunday starts 11 am to 2 pm.

Jan 12-15, 2018    Georgia Navigator Cup, Augusta, Georgia
    3 days of National meets, then the Georgia "Extreme-O" on Monday. Organized by Georigia Orienteering (GAOC) Friday middle distance race at Hard Labor Creek State Park. Saturday and Sunday will be a two-day classic event at Mistletoe State Park. Monday Extreme-O will also be at Mistletoe. The Extreme-O is based on a NATO military competition and requires navigation on a variety of types of maps and aerial photos, and includes various challenges, typically including a rope bridge over water and some form of boat or raft water crossing.
