Beginners are always welcome and basic instruction is offered at no charge.
OCIN Events are held rain, shine or snow.     In the event of severe storm or snow emergency, check this site on the morning of event.

Wed, May 11, 2016     World Orienteering Day
    details to be announced. Guinness World Record attempt. In cooperation with the International Orienteering Federation. The current record was set in 2003 when 207,979 people ran orienteering courses at 1381 locations. Breaking this record is an ambitious target, with a goal of 250,000 orienteers on May 11.
    Contact Mike Minium if you have a school or group interested in participating locally. We will plan on an early evening OCIN event for sure, but there is the possibility to do multiple events during the day at schools or parks. IOF contact Malin Bjorkqvist, IOF Global Development

    Mitchell Memorial Forest, Miamitown, Ohio, in cooperation with Great Parks Foundation. Event Director: Mike Minium
    Beginner courses and instruction will be available 10 am to 2 pm. Intermediate and advanced orienteers should plan to start courses between 10 and 11. Other activities at Mitchell that day will include a Trail race, Kids Fun Run, Mountain Bike Demo, Fishing Derby, Guided Nature Walks, and probably much, much more.

    tentative - The Texas Junior Orienteering Camp is a week long summer camp for teen orienteers who are successfully competing at yellow course level or above.

June 12-17, 2016    G.O.A.T. Training Camp, Georgia
    The Georgia Advanced Orienteering Training is a week long summer camp for teen orienteers who are successfully competing at yellow course level or above.
    Preregistration required, cost is $300

June 13 or 14, 2016     MetroParks Adventure Camp
    Summer day camp for kids 6-12, various activities. Orienteering course will eb offered one of the days. Limited to 40 kids; advance registration thru MetroParks. tentatively at Forest Run, Hamilton.
   

June 16-19, 2016   United World Games (youth -18), Klagenfurt, Austria
    United World Games. Orienteering includes 2 middle distance races and a sprint relay. Eligibilty: youth 18 or under (born 1998 or later).
   

June 29 - July 4, 2016    Laramie Daze, Wyoming
    6 days of orienteering in the high country of Medicine Bow National Forest. June 29 - July 1 will feature 3 mass-start races; July 2-4 will have 3 national ranking days.

    world championship races for those in 35 and older age classes, opem entry.

    Join us for a rare Bi-state event, with a chance to run through 2 states in a single race on the Indiana-Michigan border, just outside of South Bend. Although this is pretty far from our home base, OCIN is eager to support development of new orienteering clubs and orienteers in the surrounding region. Event Director: Thurston Miller

Sat, Oct 8, 2016     East Fork State Park, Amelia, Ohio
    A full range of courses - Special competition for JROTC students, but there will be courses open to all ages and abilities. East Fork State Park, South side, Amelia, Ohio. Event Director: Mike Minium
    Locator Map Directions: From I-275, take exit 65, and take Ohio 125 east for about 10 miles, passing thru Amelia (watch for 25 mph speed trap). Turn left on Bantam Rd and follow signs toward the beach. Do not take OH 32 or you will be on the wrong side of a very large lake!

Sat, Oct 29, 2016     "Trail of Treats" Forest Run, Hamilton, Ohio
    Location is tentative. Very easy white level course. Kids can collect tokens at each control, which can be exchanged for a bag of candy at the finish. Probably will ONLY offer teh white level course. Metroparks will have other activities, probably including a hayride, straw-bale maze, and more.
