Overview   OCIN and SMOC will host 3 races over 3 days.  Races will have courses for all ages and abilities and will be open to anyone.  The events will take place in north central Indiana and southeastern Michigan

The Races   All races are Nationally Sanctioned by Orienteering USA.  All races will have all normal “A” categories for people of all ages.  Go to Race Details for more information about each race.

Friday, October 19    Afternoon Middle Distance Race at St Patrick’s Park, South Bend, Indiana

a unique two state race – all courses will have controls in both Indiana and Michigan

Saturday, October 20   Sprint Distance Race (2 stages) at Centennial Park, Plymouth, Indiana

Sunday, October 21   Long Distance Race at Bishop Lake, Brighton Recreation Area, Brighton, Michigan

Courses and Classes

Competitive   All standard OUSA competitive courses and classes will be offered.  Competitive entrants should pre-register.

Recreational   Recreational Courses will be offered at all events.  $10 per individual for each event.  Recreational participants may enter day-of-event.  (white/yellow/orange courses only – more advanced courses are open to event volunteers with permission of event director only)

Awards   Orienteering USA Championship medals will be given to top 3 eligible finishers in each age class in each of the 3 races.  Other medals (OCIN Flying Pigs) will be given to first place overall finishers in each class if they are not championship-eligible.

Embargo Information   (See locator maps) The following areas may not be used for orienteering or orienteering training prior to these events:

            1. St. Patrick’s County Park (St Joseph County, Indiana) and M. Bertrand County Park (Berrien County, Michigan).  Immediately adjacent land belonging to Archdiocese of Ft. Wayne and private owners is also embargoed.

            2. Centennial Park in Plymouth, Indiana, and adjacent land belonging to Plymouth Community School Corporation

            3. Brighton Recreation Area, near Brighton, Michigan

Park admission / parking fees   St. Patrick’s Park (Friday) has an entry fee, but it is included with your registration.  Please advise the gate attendant that you are there for “orienteering”.    There is no parking fee on Saturday.  Brighton Recreation Area (Sunday – Bishop Lake) requires a $9 per vehicle entry fee for non-residents.  (Michigan residents may purchase an annual park pass or pay for an add-on with vehicle license registration – a Michigan license plate alone is not sufficient and rental cars likely will not have it.)  Look for self-service fee kiosks when entering the Brighton Recreation Area and be sure to pay and display.  Enforcement is notoriously aggressive.

Safety   All competitors must carry a whistle and dress appropriately for the weather conditions.  Orienteering USA keychain whistles may be purchased with registration for $2.

Child Sitting    We will accommodate parents with split start times if requested.  There will no requests during pre-registration, therefore no child sitting will be offered.

Travel, Lodging, and Tourist Activities     See the Lodging and Local Activities page.
