Overview
Orienteering Cincinnati will
host 3 races over 3 days. Races will
have courses for all ages and abilities and will be open to anyone. The events will take place in Butler County,
Ohio, just north of Cincinnati. Saturday
and Sunday will be the Air Force Junior ROTC National Championships, with
awards based on 2-day total time.
Interscholastic classes will be offered all 3 days for AFJROTC
participants, but only Sat and Sun will count toward championship awards..
The Races
All races are Nationally Sanctioned by Orienteering USA. All races will have all normal
“A” categories for people of all ages. Go to Race Details for
more information about each race.

Courses and Classes
Competitive All standard OUSA competitive courses and
classes will be offered. Competitive
entrants should pre-register. AFJROTC
interscholastic classes will be offered for Varsity and Junior Varsity, male
and female.
Recreational Recreational
Courses will be offered at all events. $10 per individual for each event. Recreational participants may enter
day-of-event. (white/yellow/orange
courses only – more advanced courses are open to event volunteers with
permission of event director only)
Awards
Flying Pig medals will be given to the first three individual finishers
in all classes based on best 2 out of 3 races.
AFJROTC National Championship awards for individuals and teams will be
based on Saturday and Sunday races only.

The following areas may not be used for orienteering
or orienteering training prior to these events:
1. Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park
2. Elk Creek MetroPark
including Sebald and Meadow Ridge Areas
3. Voice of America MetroPark Embargo note:
The VOA Museum entrance is on Tylersville Road on the
south side of the park, and you may visit the museum and stay within the fenced
museum grounds at any time. Do not enter
the Butler County MetroPark off Cox Road (west side)
prior to the competition. The Liberty
Way (north) entrance will not be open, although some navigation programs may
try to route you that way.
Park admission /
parking fees Friday at Pyramid Hill – Pyramid Hill is
giving us discounted entry. There is a
charge of $5 for each adult age 21 and over, and $3 for children aged
6-20. Children 5 and under are
free. If you are competing on Friday,
the Pyramid Hill admission fee is included in your race registration fee. Pyramid Hill entrance fees for spectators and
non-orienteering family members should be pre-paid during registration; look
for a line in the “additional selections” section. The normal park entry fees are $8 per person
for age 13 and over, $3 for age 6-12.
Saturday
and Sunday are in Butler County MetroParks. MetroParks requires
a permit for each motor vehicle entering the parks, for $5 per day. An annual permit is $10. MetroParks vehicle
permits will be available at the park entrance at event sites. Training areas are also in Butler County MetroParks, so if you want to train in MetroParks
on Thursday or Friday, you might want to get an annual permit. (Butler County, Ohio residents can get a free
annual permit with ID.)
Safety All competitors must carry a whistle and
dress appropriately for the weather conditions.
Orienteering USA keychain whistles may be purchased with registration
for $2.
Child Sitting We will
accommodate parents with split start times if requested. Please let us know as early as possible if
you have children who will need tending during the events, and we will try to
help you work out an appropriate arrangement.

Recreational
Courses
Recreational Courses will be offered
at all events. $10 per
individual for each event.
Recreational participants may enter day-of-event. (Recreational entrants are not eligible for awards or OUSA ranking
points).
Sport-Ident e-card rental
$2 per race. Must sign agreement to
pay $45 for lost or damaged card.
All entrants must use a SportIdent card. All cards except flat cards and Air+ should
work.
Preview
Maps
Previously used maps of Pyramid Hill and Elk Creek will be available
with registration for $5 each. The Elk
Creek map was formerly known as Sebald Park and does
not include newly mapped area that will be included in the Flying Pig XXII.
Voice
of America (VOA) is a newly mapped area.
NO preview map will be available for VOA.
Orders
for preview and training maps received by March 23 will be mailed to you; late
orders will be in your packet when you arrive.
Training Maps
Rentschler
Forest (with permanent course), Miami-Middletown (with permanent course),
Governor Bebb (with permanent course) Forest Run,
Harbin Park. $5
each or all 5 for $20. Rentschler, Governor Bebb, and
Forest Run are all Butler County MetroParks and
require a MetroParks motor vehicle permit ($5 daily,
$10 annual, valid at all Butler county MetroParks).
Orders
for preview and training maps received by March 23 will be mailed to you; late
orders will be in your packet when you arrive.
Shirts
Flying Pig shirts will be available through pre-registration. Shirts must be ordered by the March 18
regular registration deadline in order to guarantee size. Prices are coming soon. See the shirt design.
Dinner (Saturday evening).
Location will be Hamilton Freshman School. Menu: Rosemary grilled chicken breast and/or
pasta primavera (vegetarian), sauteed green beans, garden
tossed salad and rolls, assorted cake slices, bottled water, lemonade, and tea.
Whistles
All
competitors must carry a whistle.

Saturday and Sunday Sandwich Sales
The Orienteering USA Junior Team will be
providing sandwiches, available for purchase through pre-registration. Choices will be ham, turkey, or vegetarian,
with or without cheese. All sandwiches are
$5. Condiments such as mustard and mayo
will be available.
Refunds
Full
refund on or before Apr. 1, less the fees for any training maps, or other
materials already sent. No refunds after
Apr. 1, unless exception is granted by the Event Director.
Joel Rauschenbach Memorial Junior
Fund
The Joel Rauschenbach
Memorial Junior Fund provides grants to help develop youth orienteering in the
Greater Cincinnati area and to assist area youth in traveling to national and
international competitions. As you
register for these events, you will have the opportunity to make a voluntary
