Public is welcome at all events, unless specifically noted in the announcement. Beginners are always welcome and basic instruction is offered at no charge. OCIN Events are held rain, shine, or snow. In the event of severe storm or snow emergency, check this site on the morning of event.

Sun, Sept 26, 2021     Great Outdoors Weekend, Mt Airy, Cincinnati, Ohio
    This event is in cooperation with Cincinnati Parks Explore Nature and Green Umbrella. OCIN will offer free "try it" orienteering courses. We will have white and yellow level (beginner and intermediate) courses, all are welcome. Starts are open from 10:00 am until 1:30 pm. Control pickup begins at 3 pm. Mt. Airy Forest. Free instructional sessions for beginners. Start will be at the shelter on Stone Steps Ridge.
    This event is part of Cincinnati Great Outdoor Weekend, a regional effort offering over 100 different free outdoor activities highlighting Greater Cincinnati Parks and Natural Areas. No pre-registration is required for this event.

    One-person relay format, yellow and orange level courses, mass start at 2 pm. Club meeting at 3:30 pm. Course Setter Mattias Eriksson. See Indiana Crossroads Orienteering website for more information. Pre-registration is required by 3 pm Saturday.
   

Sat, October 2, 2021     East Fork, Indian Mound Shelter
    Full range of courses from white thru red, for all ages. This event will include a special competition for JROTC cadets. Starts are open from 10 am to 1 pm. Control pickup begins at 3 pm. Pre-registration is required. If you have an Orienteering USA account, it will auto-fill your information; if not, select "enter data manually". School groups, JROTC teams, and large scout troops should contact Mike Minium for a spreadsheet entry form. Registration closes at 9 pm, Friday, October 1. Please help us be ready by not waiting to the last minute to register. School and scout groups should register before 8 am Friday to assure adequate supplies of maps.

    national event hosted by Minnesota Orienteering Club (MNOC) Event website; pre-registration required; price increase on Sept. 20.

Oct 14-17, 2021   2021 US ARDF Championships, North Carolina
    national Amateur Radio Direction Finding (ARDF) Championships hosted by Backwoods Orienteering Klub (BOK) near Raleigh NC. Practice events Oct 10-12, championship events Oct 14-17.     OCIN's annual Halloween Orienteering Courses in cooperation with MetroParks of Butler County. Full range of courses, suitable for all ages. Starts are open from 11 am to 1 pm. (start a course any time during these hours). Course closes and control pickup begins at 3 pm.
    We will also offer the Trail of Treats: a short, easy course for kids, with a choice of candy or a toy at the finish. Trail of Treats course is $4 per child; regular OCIN fees ($10 members, $15 non-members) for the other courses.
    MetroParks of Butler County Motor Vehicle Permit is required. Butler County residents may get a 2021-2022 permit free with proof of residency. Non-residents may purchase a 2021 annual for $15 or a daily for $8 online at MetroParks Vehicle Permits. We use MetroParks of Butler County for several events each year. We will also offer permit sales on site.
    Registration: You do not need to register for Trail of Treats. Just show up during the times indicated. Participants on regular courses (yellow and above) should preregister by Oct. 22 at 9 pm, link coming soon.

Sat, Nov 6, 2021     Twisted Run IV, Centennial Park, Plymouth, Indiana
    OCIN's South Bend chapter brings back the annual Twisted Run. Easy (white to yellow level difficulty) navigation (long 6.6 km and short 3.2 km versions) with a mass start. A few navigation decisions will give navigators the chance to outsmart the speedsters. Mass start at 11 am.
    This will be a fundraiser for the Orienteering USA Junior National Team, with all proceeds going to the national team.
    Pre-register online at Runsignup Pre-registration price is $25 for adults age 19+; $15 for kids 13-18, $5 for kids 7-12, and free for kids 6 and under.
    Park entry or vehicle permit fees: none. Restroom facilities: modern, indoor. Event center: outdoors, open-sided shelter building.

Sat, Nov 13 and 14, 2021     Southwest, Ohio
    Navy JROTC Area 3 Championships. The championships will be a closed event for HS Navy JROTC Area 3 cadets only. (Cadets from other areas and service branches may participate in the public event later in the day). Details to be announced, morning start times. Camp Butterworth is a private property and is embargoed to any orienteering training by Area 3 NJROTC cadets or coaches prior to this event.
    Day 1 will be Sat Nov 13 at Camp Butterworth, Day 2 will be Sun Nov 14 at Meadow Ridge. These areas are embargoed for cadet training prior to the championships.
    Camp Butterworth is a girl scout camp on the ridges overlooking the Little Miami River Valley. The camp has numerous trails, cabins, and tenting areas and a mix of terrain with flattish upland fields and woods, steeply wooded hillsides, and river-side flood plains.
    Elk Creek Park - Meadow Ridge Area (site of the former Weatherwax Golf Course). The area is a mix of reclaimed golf course, and steeply wooded hills, descending to the Elk Creek valley and the Sebald Park portion of Elk Creek Park.
    MetroParks of Butler County Motor Vehicle Permit is required for Sunday. Butler County residents may get a 2021-22 permit free with proof of residency. Non-residents may purchase a 2021 annual for $15 or a daily for $8 online at MetroParks Vehicle Permits. We use MetroParks of Butler County for several events each year. Sat, Nov 27, 2021     TROL Training Day, Miami University Western Woods, Oxford, Ohio
    Tentative 8 am to 6 pm. All day training camp geared for youth, featuring an alternating schedule of indoor classroom training and outdoor navigation ion various short orienteering courses and activities throughout the day. Difficulty increases through the day; beginners may want to do a half day starting in the morning; experienced orienteers will benefit from the morning sessions as well.
    Normally this day includes lunch (sandwiches and snacks) and pizza dinner; for this year still tentative depending on COVID policies.

    MLK weekend. Typically a middle distance ravce on Friday, two classic races on Sat and Sun, and Extreme-O on Monday.

    near spectacular Iguasu Falls near the Brazil / Argentina / Paraguay border. event website (Portuguese) Preliminary plans call for a Sprint/Middle/Long format in 3 countries, with the Sprint in Parguay, Middle in Brazil, and Long in Argentina.

March 24-26, 2023     OCIN Flying Pig XXV / 2023 Orienteering USA Nationals

    North American Champs and World Rogaine Champs postponed to 2023.. Two week long festival of orienteering events, beginning in the Bay Area and ending in the Sierras near the Nevada border. includes the North American Championships and World Rogaining Championship.
