Public is welcome at all events, unless specifically noted in the announcement. Beginners are always welcome and basic instruction is offered at no charge. OCIN Events are held rain, shine, or snow. In the event of severe storm or snow emergency, check this site on the morning of event.

September, 2022 thru March, 2023     OCIN TROL and WARS Season Pass
   Register now for your 2022-2023 TROL / WARS season pass, which gives free entry to all league events from November 2022 thru March 2023, plus pre-season events in Sept and Oct.
    When you register, if you have an Orienteering USA account, the registration system will auto-fill your personal information; if not, select "enter data manually".

Sat, Sept 24, 2022     Miami University Natural Areas, Oxford, Ohio
    OCIN will offer free "try it" orienteering courses and instruction for beginners. A "white" beginner level course will be offered. Starts are open from 9:00 am until 1:30 pm. Control pickup begins at 2 pm.
    The Miami University Hike-a-thon will offer many different free activities and exhibits including hikes, guided birdwatching walk, natural/organic food samples from Moon Coop, and much more.

Sat, Oct 1, 2022     Scout-O Camporee, Loveland Ohio
    This event is restricted to scouts and will be held at Camp Friedlander. Many OCIN volunteers will be needed to help. We will have several courses in conjunction with the BSA's Peterloon event. Volunteers (only) may run a course; there will be 5 very short courses of white-yellow to orange+ difficulty, but all under 2 km straight line.
    BSA Camp Friedlander / Camp Craig. Contact Mike Minium for details about volunteering. You MUST obtain a volunteer parking pass from Mike in advance.

October 2022   South American Orienteering Championships, Foz do Iguacu, Brazil
    near spectacular Iguasu Falls near the Brazil / Argentina / Paraguay border. event website (Portuguese) Preliminary plans call for a Sprint/Middle/Long format in 2 countries, with the Sprint in Parguay, Middle and Long in Brazil. Due to political complexities, there will not be a race in Argentina.

Friday, Oct 21, 2022     Rentschler Forest MetroPark, Hamilton, Ohio
    OCIN's annual Halloween Orienteering Courses in cooperation with MetroParks of Butler County. Full range of courses, suitable for all ages. Twilight start times are open from 5 pm to 7 pm. (start a course any time during these hours). Sunset is at 6:30. Courses close and control pickup begins at 8 pm.
    We will also offer the Trail of Treats: a short, easy course for kids, with a choice of candy or a toy at the finish. Trail of Treats course is $4 per child; regular OCIN fees ($10 members, $15 non-members) for the other courses. This event is included in our 2022-23 TROL/WARS season pass, so entry is FREE if you purchase a TROL or WARS season pass.
    MetroParks of Butler County Motor Vehicle Permit is required. Butler County residents may get a 2021-2022 permit free with proof of residency. Non-residents may purchase a 2022 annual for $15 or a daily for $8 online at MetroParks Vehicle Permits. We use MetroParks of Butler County for several events each year. We will also offer permit sales on site.
    Registration: You do not need to register for Trail of Treats. Just show up during the times indicated. Participants on regular courses (yellow and above) should preregister by Oct. 20 at 9 pm. Register here (coming soon) for regular courses (white thru green).

Saturday, October 29, 2022     Governor Bebb MetroPark, Okeana, Ohio

Sat, Nov 5, 2022     Twisted Run V, Centennial Park, Plymouth, Indiana
    OCIN's South Bend chapter brings back the annual Twisted Run. Easy (white to yellow level difficulty) navigation (long 6.4 km and short 3.7 km versions) with a mass start at 11 am. A few navigation decisions will give navigators the chance to outsmart the speedsters. Mass start at 11 am.
    This will be a fundraiser for the Orienteering USA Junior National Team, with all proceeds going to the national team.
    Pre-register online at Runsignup Pre-registration price is $25 for adults age 19+; $15 for kids 13-18, $5 for kids 7-12, and free for kids 6 and under.
    Park entry or vehicle permit fees: none. Restroom facilities:unheated indoor. Event center: outdoors, open-sided shelter building.

    MLK weekend. Middle distance race on Friday, two classic races on Sat and Sun, and Extreme-O on Monday. Saturday and Sunday will be the 2023 Orienteering USA Junior Nationals. Entry information coming soon.

    2023 OUSA Nationals (Middle, Long, Sprint) Middle and Long will be at Carter Caves State Park in eastern Kentucky, sprint venue is still tbd.
    Separate individual awards for each race; US Champion medals to eligible finishers.

    annual national meet in rugged terrain around West Point NY, organized by the U.S. Military Academy Orienteering Team.

    tentative public event with a full range of courses, plus training programs for girl scouts and leaders. (Purchase your QCARS summer season pass now for free entry to the public courses at this event and all QCARS series events).

Monday (Memorial Day), May 29, 2023     Liberty Quest IV, Liberty, IN
    Urban Score-style course through the town of Liberty.   Find as many control points as you can in any order.   At each control point, you will find the answer to a history or trivia question to record on your score-card.   You get points for each correct answer.   But you will rapidly lose points if you go over the 2 hour time limit, so it is better to get back ON TIME even if you haven't found every point.

June 4-9, 2023   Texas Junior Orienteering Camp, Bridgeport, Texas
    week-long intense orienteering camp for youth who are successfully completing courses at yellow level and above, first week of June.
   

2023   World Masters Orienteering Championship, Slovakia
    POSTPONED from 2020 to 2023 open competiton for orienteers age 35 and over. pre-registration required. event website

August, 2023   California Orienteering Festival, USA
    North American Champs and World Rogaine Champs postponed to 2023.. Two week long festival of orienteering events, beginning in the Bay Area and ending in the Sierras near the Nevada border. includes the North American Championships and World Rogaining Championship.
