Orienteering Cincinnati Events

Public is welcome at all events, unless specifically noted in the announcement. Beginners are always welcome and basic instruction is offered at no charge. OCIN Events are held rain, shine, or snow. In the event of severe storm or snow emergency, check this site on the morning of event.

Park Quest 2020
    This is a series of "do-it-yourself" events in various parks. OCIN will post a map, which you can print, and do a course on your own schedule. You can self-report your results, routes, and photos.    We are also making several of our permanent course maps available online for free for personal and educational use during this time.     Find out more and try ParkQuest now!

    Purchase a TROL /WARS season pass for free entry to all TROL/ WARS series events. Entry fee for individual TROL / WARS events is $10 for members or $15 for non-members.
    Pre-registration for this event requires you to take 2 different steps. First, you must fill out the MetroParks Activity Waiver and Health Acknowledgement, print it, and bring it with you to the event. Second, you must pre-register for this event.
    Elk Creek Park - Meadow Ridge Area (site of the former Weatherwax Golf Course). The area is a mix of reclaimed golf course, and steeply wooded hills, descending to Elk Creek.
    MetroParks of Butler County Motor Vehicle Permit is required. Butler County residents may get a 2019-2020 permit free with proof of residency. Non-residents may purchase a 2020 annual for $10 or a daily for $5 online at MetroParks Vehicle Permits. We use MetroParks of Butler County for several events each year. We expect to have 2021 annual permits available for sale in time for this event.

Dec 31, 2020 and Jan 1, 2021     OCIN New Year's Events
    OCIN New Year's meets: Join us for this annual tradition! Details to be announced. special note: Use the Timberhill entrance to Rentschler Metropark, see directions below.
    Tentative: New Year's Eve Night Score Orienteering at Camp Timberhill, Hamilton, OH; starts are open from 6 pm until 8 pm. Score style course, go in any order, but return within the time limit or lose points. Pre-registration will be required.
    Start the New Year off right. Join us for New Year's Day Orienteering - start times 11 am to 1 pm. White thru red courses. Event Fees: $10 members, $15 non-members, $2 discount if you have your own SportIdent card. Although this is not a TROL/WARS event, it is free for 2019-20 TROL Season pass holders.
    Park entry or vehicle permit fees: MetroParks of Butler County Motor Vehicle Permit is required and will be available on site. March 19-21, 2021     OCIN Flying Pig XXIV / 2021 Orienteering USA Nationals
    2021 OUSA Nationals (Middle, Long, Sprint) (alternatively, a belated 2020 OUSA Nationals.)
    Events will be within a 20 mile radius of downtown Cincinnati. Format will be a Friday afternoon middle distance at Mt. Airy Forest, Saturday long distance at Miami Whitewater, and Sunday morning sprint at Northern Kentucky University. Separate individual awards for each race; US Champion medals to eligible finishers.
   
    Embargoed terrain: (closed to all orienteering or visits to gain knowledge of the terrain). 1. Miami Whitewater Forest south of New Haven Rd (paved bike trail is ok, golf course is ok); 2. all portions of Mt Airy Forest south of I-74, including Green Twp Bicentennial Park; 3. Northern Kentucky University.
    Saturday evening dinner will feature Worldwalker Steven M. Newman, the first person to hike solo around the world. Steve and his wife regularly orienteer with OCIN as well!

Mar 27 and 28, 2021   Raccoongaine, Pennsylvania
    3 hour (Saturday) and 6 hour (Sunday) rogaines in southwest Pennsylvania, Raccoon Creek State Park. teams or solos permitted. Registration opens January 1; events have a registration limit and usually fill up with registration closing within 2 to 3 days.

May, 2021     Home School Orienteering Workshops, Cincinnati, Ohio
    These will be offered on 3 consecutive Wednesdays in different area parks. In cooperation with Cincinnati Parks Explore Nature - This is an introductory program geared toward home school students and their families in which you'll learn the basics of orienteering and be able to explore the park on up to 3 different courses of beginner to intermediate difficulty.
    Online Pre-registration is strongly encouraged. Home school students and families are welcome to attend any of these 3 workshop dates in different Cincinnati Parks, or come join us for all 3 of them! Children of all ages are welcome.
    Pre-registration fees: For one workshop $10 for 1 child, $18 for 2 or more children; For 2 workshops: $18 for 1 child, $32 for 2 or more children; For all 3 workshops: $24 for one child, $42 for 2 or more children. Day-of-event registration is $15 per child, if space is available. Parent may participate with their child(ren) at no extra charge.

Sat, June 19, 2021     Amazing Charity Race, Milford, Ohio
    OCIN will host one of the "Challenge" stations in the annual Amazing Charity Race. Volunteers will be needed to staff our challenge, but we can't reveal exactly what the challenge will involve. The Amazing Charity Race (from their website) is a fun, quirky, adventure that challenges the contestants agility, balance, coordination, strength, intelligence, problem solving skills, fine motor skills, and most importantly, their sense of humor.

Sat, Nov 6, 2021     Twisted Run IV, Centennial Park, Plymouth, Indiana
    OCIN's South Bend chapter brings back the annual Twisted Run. Easy (white to yellow level difficulty) navigation (long 6.6 km and short 3.2 km versions) with a mass start. A few navigation decisions will give navigators the chance to outsmart the speedsters. Mass start at 11 am.
    This will be a fundraiser for the Orienteering USA Junior National Team, with all proceeds going to the national team.
   
    Park entry or vehicle permit fees: none. Restroom facilities: modern, indoor. Event center: outdoors, open-sided shelter building.

October 2022   South American Orienteering Championships, Foz do Iguacu, Brazil
