Public is welcome at all events, unless specifically noted in the announcement. Beginners are always welcome and basic instruction is offered at no charge. OCIN Events are held rain, shine, or snow. In the event of severe storm or snow emergency, check this site on the morning of event.

    OCIN's annual Halloween Orienteering Courses in cooperation with MetroParks of Butler County. There will be a full range of courses for all ages. Twilight courses, with starts from 5 until 7 pm. Courses close at 8 pm, control pickup begins at 8 pm.
    The Trail of Treats will be a short, easy course for kids, with a choice of candy or a toy at the finish. Trail of Treats course is $4 per child; regular OCIN fees ($10 members, $15 non-members) for other courses. Sat, Nov 2 2019     Twisted Run II, Centennial Park, Plymouth, Indiana
    OCIN's South Bend chapter brings back the second year of the Twisted Run. Easy (white to yellow level difficulty) navigation (long and short versions) with a mass start. A few navigation decisions will give navigators the chance to outsmart the speedsters.

Sat, Nov 2, 2019     OCIN / REI Orienteering Workshop
    For the second year, OCIN and REI will team up to offer introductory (morning) and intermediate (afternoon) workshops for people who are interested in learning or developing navigational skills. Participants will learn to orienteer using a detailed map, and to use the map with a compass. The training will be a combination of classroom and outdoor "in the woods" training. Skills will be taught and participants will practice in a safe and controlled environment. All ages welcome. Wear comfortable clothes for outdoor activity. Hiking boots, trail shoes, or running shoes are recommended. Bring a compass if you have one, but don't buy one if you don't. Loaners will be available and you can try different types.
    You may sign up for either workshop, or get a discount by doing both. OCIN members and REI members will get a member discount on the workshop fees. Pre-registration is required.
    beginner workshop time: 9 am to 12:30. Check-in opens at 8:30. Please arrive by 8:45 as there is a short walk from the parking area to the training center.
    intermediate workshop time: 1 pm to 4:30. Check-in opens at 12:30. Please arrive by 12:45 as there is a short walk from the parking area to the training center.
    Online pre-registration is now open. Fees: Adult $100 for either workshop, $150 for both. Youth age 21 or under $85 for each, $120 for both.     An all-day training program geared mainly toward students participating in the TROL youth league, but open to everyone. There will be an alternating mix of indoor instruction and outdoor courses and training activities. Be prepared to be outside several times throughout the day. 8 am to 6 pm; Lunch sandwiches and dinner pizza are included. Pre-registration is required.

April 3-5, 2020     OCIN Flying Pig XXIV / 2020 Orienteering USA Nationals
    National events, details to be announced. 2020 OUSA Nationals (Middle, Long, Sprint)
    Events will be within a 20 mile radius of downtown Cincinnati. Format will be a Friday afternoon middle distance, Saturday long distance, and Sunday morning sprint. Separate individual awards for each race; US Champion medals to eligible finishers.
    Embargoed terrain: 1. Miami Whitewater Forest south of New Haven Rd (paved bike trail is ok, golf course is ok); 2. all portions of Mt Airy Forest south of I-74, including Green Twp Bicentennial Park; 3. Northern Kentucky University.

April 11, 2020     MetroParks of Butler County, location tba
    This event will include a special egg hunt course for kids. Following an easy map, kids can collect a different color plastic egg at each checkpoint. When finishing, turn in the eggs for a choice of candy or toy from our treasure chest. Egg hunt course is $4 per child.
