Public is welcome at all events, unless specifically noted in the announcement. Beginners are always welcome and basic instruction is offered at no charge. OCIN Events are held rain, shine, or snow. In the event of severe storm or snow emergency, check this site on the morning of event.

Caution - Fall Hunting Seasons
    Hunting season for deer continues through Jan 20 in Kentucky, Feb 2 in Ohio, and Jan 31 in Indiana. Please use caution in the woods during all hunting seasons. For more details, season dates, and links to official state websites, see our hunting information page

Jan 5 - Feb 23, 2020     OLOU Winter Sprint Series, Louisville, Kentucky
    Orienteering Louisville (OLOU). 2 short sprint-style courses at each event. See NEW   OLOU website for more details. Event fees $5 for one or both courses. Starts are open on Sundays from 2:00 to 3:15, with control pickup beginning at 3:30. The shorter course is always family and beginner-friendly. The second is more challenging.

    open to all, pre-registration required. Event information and registration Regular registration closes Dec 31; Late registration (with extra fees) closes Jan. 10.
    3 days of national ranking meets (middle distance Friday, classic courses on Sat and Sun), plus the annual Extreme O' on Monday featuring a variety of navigational challenges featuring different types of maps, additional mental puzzle challenges, and usually a few physical challenges such as a rope bridge or control reachable only by some sort of watercraft (safety gear is provided and required).

April 3-5, 2020     OCIN Flying Pig XXIV / 2020 Orienteering USA Nationals
    National events, details to be announced. 2020 OUSA Nationals (Middle, Long, Sprint)
    Events will be within a 20 mile radius of downtown Cincinnati. Format will be a Friday afternoon middle distance at Mt. Airy Forest, Saturday long distance at Miami Whitewater, and Sunday morning sprint at Northern Kentucky University. Separate individual awards for each race; US Champion medals to eligible finishers.
    Embargoed terrain: (closed to all orienteering or visits to gain knowledge of the terrain). 1. Miami Whitewater Forest south of New Haven Rd (paved bike trail is ok, golf course is ok); 2. all portions of Mt Airy Forest south of I-74, including Green Twp Bicentennial Park; 3. Northern Kentucky University.
    Saturday evening dinner will feature Worldwalker Steven M. Newman, the first person to hike solo around the world. Steve and his wife regularly orienteer with OCIN as well!

Thursday, April 9, 2020     MetroParks of Butler County, location tba
    Starts from 5 pm until 7 pm, course closing at 8 pm, sunset at 8:11 pm. Full range of courses for all ages. This event will include a special egg hunt course for kids. Following an easy map, kids can collect a different color plastic egg at each checkpoint. When finishing, turn in the eggs for a choice of candy or toy from our treasure chest. Egg hunt course is $4 per child. For other courses, regular entry fee is $10 for members or $15 for non-members; $2 discount if you have your own SI card.
    MetroParks of Butler County Motor Vehicle Permit is required and will be available on site. Butler County residents may get a 2019-2020 permit free with proof of residency. Non-residents may buy a 2020 annual for $10 or a daily for $5. We use MetroParks of Butler County for several events each year.

    This event is restricted to scouts and will be held at Camp Friedlander. Many OCIN volunteers will be needed to help. We will have an intense weekend of orienteering activity for scouts, with an introductory get-together on Friday evening, skills sessions on Saturday morning, several courses open on Saturday afternoon, a night Score-O Saturday night, and the individual Scout-O Championships on Sunday morning.

Saturday, Oct 24, 2020     Rentschler Forest MetroPark, Hamilton, Ohio
    OCIN's annual Halloween Orienteering Courses in cooperation with MetroParks of Butler County. There will be a 90 minute Score-O course, suitable for all ages. You have 90 minutes to find as many controls as you can, in any order. Twilight courses, with starts from 4 until 7 pm. (Start by 6:30 if you want a full 90 minutes; we must close the course at 8 pm). Courses close at 8 pm, control pickup begins at 8 pm.
    We will also offer the Trail of Treats: a short, easy course for kids, with a choice of candy or a toy at the finish. Trail of Treats course is $4 per child; regular OCIN fees ($10 members, $15 non-members) for the Score-O course.
    MetroParks of Butler County Motor Vehicle Permit is required and will be available on site. Butler County residents may get a 2019-2020 permit free with proof of residency.     near spectacular Iguasu Falls near the Brazil / Argentina / Paraguay border. event website (Portuguese) Preliminary plans call for a Sprint/Middle/Long format in 3 countries, with the Sprint in Parguay, Middle in Brazil, and Long in Argentina.

Saturday, Oct 31, 2020     Governor Bebb MetroPark, Okeana, Ohio

Sat, Nov 7 2020     Twisted Run III, Centennial Park, Plymouth, Indiana
    OCIN's South Bend chapter brings back the anual Twisted Run. Easy (white to yellow level difficulty) navigation (long and short versions) with a mass start. A few navigation decisions will give navigators the chance to outsmart the speedsters. Mass start at 11 am.
    pre-registration required, more details to come. This will be a fundraiser for the Orienteering USA Junior National Team, with all proceeds going to the national team.
