Orienteering Cincinnati Events

Public is welcome at all events, unless specifically noted in the announcement. Beginners are always welcome and basic instruction is offered at no charge. OCIN Events are held rain, shine, or snow. In the event of severe storm or snow emergency, check this site on the morning of event.

    Queen City Adventure Running Series (QCARS) is a series of short summer orienteering events, featuring 2 short, fast, and fun courses more open park land and campus areas. Season pass (includes all QCARS events, plus bonus events) is just $30 for OCIN members and $45 for non-members! Entry to individual QCARS events is $10 for members, $15 for non-members. Your best 3 QCARS events count for season awards.

Sat, May 21, 2022     QCARS 1 - Delhi Park, Delhi Twp, Cincinnati, Ohio
    QCARS 1 at Delhi Park, Starts 10:00 to 11:30; control pickup begins at noon. 2 short courses are offered at each QCARS event.
    Online pre-registration for this event is open. Purchase your QCARS summer season pass now for free entry to all QCARS series events.     Location: Delhi Park, Shelter #4. Enter the park from Delhi Pike east of Anderson Ferrry Rd next to McDonald's or from Foley Rd east fo Anderson Ferry Rd. Shelter 4 is in the south part of the park closer to the Delhi Pike entrance. Do not use the floral gardens entrance on Greenwell Drive, the roads do not connect inside the park.

Monday (Memorial Day), May 30, 2022     Liberty Quest III, Liberty, IN
    Urban Score-style course through the town of Liberty.   Find as many control points as you can in any order.   At each control point, you will find the answer to a history or trivia question to record on your score-card.   You get points for each correct answer.   But you will rapidly lose points if you go over the 2 hour time limit, so it is better to get back ON TIME even if you haven't found every point.   Check-in opens at 8:30 am.   Mass start at 9:00.   (If you can't make it by 9, you can start later, but still need to finish by 11 to avoid losing points).
    Entry fee $15 for adults, 10 for youth; $5 discount for UCCCJSD students and members of any Orienteering USA club.   Registration opening soon!
    Park entry or vehicle permit fee none. Restroom facilities: portable toilet nearby (indoor facility closed). Event center: outdoors, open-sided shelter.

June 5-10, 2022   Texas Junior Orienteering Camp, Bridgeport, Texas
    week-long intense orienteering camp for youth who are successfully completing courses at yellow level and above, first week of June.
    Application deadline is May 13.

Sat, June 18, 2022     Amazing Charity Race, Milford, Ohio
    OCIN will host one of the "Challenge" stations in the annual Amazing Charity Race. Volunteers will be needed to staff our challenge, but we can't reveal exactly what the challenge will involve. The Amazing Charity Race (from their website) is a fun, quirky, adventure that challenges the contestants agility, balance, coordination, strength, intelligence, problem solving skills, fine motor skills, and most importantly, their sense of humor.

July 1-10 2022   Canadian Rockies Orienteering Festival, Alberta and British Columbia, Canada
       POSTPONED from 2020 Including Western Canadian Championships in Bragg Creek and Kananaskis, Alberta, and Canadian Orienteering Championships near Kimberley and Cranbrook BC. Also mid-week events July 5-6 near Blairmore Alberta, and Sass-Peepre Junior Camp for youth 11-20 on July 7-8 at Kimberley Nordic Centre, BC        CROF event website

July 7-17, 2022   World Games, Birmingham, Alabama, USA
    (postponed from July, 2021). Orienteering USA will host the orienteering portion of the 2021 World Games. Orienteering events will be July 15-17. national teams only, contact Orienteering USA National Team Selection Committee for details.
    Volunteers will be needed for many parts of the orienteering event including control setting and checking, control watching during the event, staffing an information table, site setup, and more. More information about the events and volunteering.

Sat, Aug 27, 2022     St Patrick's Park, South Bend, IN
    OCIN's northern Indiana chapter organizes this annual event. This will have several short courses, in a 2-person relay format (Hokum Karem) with a mass start at 10:00 am from the Fragomeni Shelter. Teams: Male, Female, Mixed.

Sat, September 10, 2022     East Fork, Indian Mound Shelter
    Full range of courses from white thru red, for all ages. This event will include a special competition for JROTC cadets. Starts are open from 10 am to 1 pm. Control pickup begins at 3 pm. Pre-registration is required. If you have an Orienteering USA account, it will auto-fill your information; if not, select "enter data manually". School groups, JROTC teams, and large scout troops should contact Mike Minium for a spreadsheet entry form. Registration closes at 9 pm, Friday, October 1. Please help us be ready by not waiting to the last minute to register. School and scout groups should register before 8 am Friday to assure adequate supplies of maps.

October 2022   South American Orienteering Championships, Foz do Iguacu, Brazil
    near spectacular Iguasu Falls near the Brazil / Argentina / Paraguay border. event website (Portuguese) Preliminary plans call for a Sprint/Middle/Long format in 3 countries, with the Sprint in Parguay, Middle in Brazil, and Long in Argentina.

Sat, Nov 5, 2022     Twisted Run V, Centennial Park, Plymouth, Indiana
    OCIN's South Bend chapter brings back the annual Twisted Run. Easy (white to yellow level difficulty) navigation (long 6.4 km and short 3.7 km versions) with a mass start at 11 am. A few navigation decisions will give navigators the chance to outsmart the speedsters. Mass start at 11 am.
    This will be a fundraiser for the Orienteering USA Junior National Team, with all proceeds going to the national team.
    Pre-registration price is $25 for adults age 19+; $15 for kids 13-18, $5 for kids 7-12, and free for kids 6 and under.
    Park entry or vehicle permit fees: none. Restroom facilities:unheated indoor. Event center: outdoors, open-sided shelter building.

    Public Starts will be open from 11:30 am to 1 pm. Full range of courses for all ages. Courses: white easy; yellow intermediate; orange advanced, brown short expert, green expert; red long expert.

    MLK weekend. Typically a middle distance race on Friday, two classic races on Sat and Sun, and Extreme-O on Monday.
   

March 24-26, 2023     OCIN Flying Pig XXV / 2023 Orienteering USA Nationals
    2023 OUSA Nationals (Middle, Long, Sprint) Separate individual awards for each race; US Champion medals to eligible finishers.

    tentative public event with a full range of courses, plus training programs for girl scouts and leaders. (Purchase your QCARS summer season pass now for free entry to the public courses at this event and all QCARS series events).

2023   World Masters Orienteering Championship, Slovakia
    POSTPONED from 2020 to 2023 open competiton for orienteers age 35 and over. pre-registration required. event website

August, 2023   California Orienteering Festival, USA
    North American Champs and World Rogaine Champs postponed to 2023.. Two week long festival of orienteering events, beginning in the Bay Area and ending in the Sierras near the Nevada border. includes the North American Championships and World Rogaining Championship.
